the times gone by

innocence.
carefree.

to have that zest for life,
that desire to test boundaries,
that underlying disregard for formalities,
that character with no frills,
it's what all kids have.
it's what we had.
we had enough to get be,
to live, simple and free.

but all too soon, the world changes us.
it moulds us into people,
who wear so many layers of masks,
layers that cover and hide
who we are, who we could be.
shouldnt we be living as children?
with the assurance of our future,
the joy of our blessings,
the love of our Father?

underneath those masks,
deep in our hearts,
we know we still have that child in us,
the child and all his dreams.
just that, sadly, we never admit
our dependence, our vulnerabilities.
we refuse to be seen as weak,
to accept the peace and joy,
that only our Father can give.

we fail to connect fully,
with the reality,
that we're adults in this world,
but children in His.
