and so, we wait and watch the sun dawn on a new day.
knowing that what is yet to come,
isn't a day spent lazing on the beach,
nor a leisurely stroll under palm trees,
rather, it will be a long, eventful experience,
one that many will ditch.
Don the protectihve wetsuit - the one that keeps you warm despite prolonged exposure to the elements.
Wiggle into the long flippers - a good sturdy pair that can propel you strongly through resistant waters.
Remember the weight belt, clasp it tightly - it is the one thing you will both hate and appreciate out at sea.
Wade out, through shallow cyan beauty, to the skiff that awaits.
It takes you out to where the waters are deep.
Because, that is where life is meant to be lived.
A buoy is set up in the midst of little white tips playing hide and seek.
It will be the lifeline, the only way to get a respite.
And so, once you're in, your day begins.
Fight the waves on the surface.
Dive deep to seek the peace beneath.
Wrestle with your fears,
Whatever you do, do not breathe.
This is freediving.
But it is life too.
And I am feeling a little seasick, I am tempted to strike out for shore.
The waters are never a place where we really belong - not naturally.
Our bodies were made for the land. Land-dwellers, they call us.
But our souls were made for the sea, where God calls out to our real beings from the deep.
